Every year the UCLA Cotsen Institute of Archaeology hosts an open house for the faculty, students and the public of Los Angeles. As the Open House aims to show the close relationship between the institute and the Fowler Museum of UCLA, we displayed our close relationship we have with the locals of Urkesh.
Displayed on the boards are posters of the history of our archaeological excavation site, Urkesh. We also diplayed our excavation team and we had a computer station for visitors to interact with our new website, AVASA.
Although we are no longer there to excavate our site, we receive regular updates from the our team in Urkesh. For this year's Open House we decided to display the close relatioship that we have still maintain with the locals of Urkesh, with the aim to show our visitors of the institute our idea of cultural conservation. It was heart warming to see people's interests in our work within Syria. Students from not only UCLA attended this years institute's open house but also community college students from Pasadena college, Santa Monica College and California State University Long Beach. Future students of UCLA and regular visitors of the Fowler Museum also made pit stops to our lab.
